Discover the Walks
The 12 walks in the book are centred around 5 popular tourist destinations within the heart of the National Forest. For each section there is a page of interesting and handy information about the start point. You will find tips that can enable you to extend your walk into a whole day out, suggestions for family friendly activities, information about parking and details of where you can stop for refreshments. Following each information page are the instructions for a choice of walks starting and finishing at that point.
Each walk is illustrated with a selection of photographs which link to the instructions and allow you to check that you are in the right place! There is also a simple map showing the key points on each routes.
While the book provides all the information that you need to follow the walks I'd encourage you to invest in the two Yellow Walk maps that cover the heart of the National Forest - one of these covers Ashby, Measham and Swadllincote while the other shows Ashby, Ticknall and Melbourne. These maps are small and easy to fold into a pocket. The scale is large and easy to follow, they are also laminated for durability. Map reading is lots of fun and a skill that is often forgotten in this hi tech age. Taking a map allows you to detour and explore if you wish. Yellow Walk maps are available at Ashby Tourist Information office, from some local retailers, or online at www.yellowpublications.co.uk.
