Ashby de la Zouch
Ashby is a thriving market town set right in the centre of the National Forest. Market Street is the heart of the town and there are a number of courtyards and passageways leading off it. Take time to explore and you will discover a wonderful array of small independent shops along with some great tea rooms, restaurants and coffee shops. Running parallel to Market Street are South Street and North Street. From South Street you can access beautiful and historic spots including Ashby Castle, St Helens Church and the Bath Grounds. North Street is home to Ashby Museum, the Tourist Information Centre, Venture Theatre and the Library.
The 2 walks in this section are interesting mixes of old and new - a bit like Ashby itself! The routes follow long established paths taking you through landscapes both young and old. On the first walk you will explore part of the National Forest Way, a 75 mile route that was opened in 2014 and showcases some of the amazing landscapes within the National Forest. The second walk includes a section of the longer established Ivanhoe Trail, a 37 mile loop that celebrates the link of this area with Walter Scott's famous novel. Either of the walks can easily be accessed on foot from the town centre.
