What better way is there to relax than getting outside and enjoying a stroll in the fresh air?

Spend just an hour exploring our countryside, admiring the wonders of nature and the changing of the seasons and you are bound to feel better for it!

This book is written for everyone who lives in, or is visiting, the National Forest.  The walks vary from a short 45 minute stroll through to a couple of hours of exploring.  They are centred around five popular tourist attractions in the heart of the forest and include routes that are suitable for all ages and abilities.  Whether you want to take friends and family out or just walk the dog - no matter if you are young or a little more mature - you’ll find walks and outings to enjoy within these pages.
Since the early 1990’s this area has been transformed by the planting of millions of trees. Scarred landscapes have been changed into havens for wildlife and previously scarce species of birds and wildflowers are now flourishing.  Woodlands have been planted and permissive paths created, tracks have been built and nature reserves opened.  All of this amazing work now gives residents and visitors access to a wide variety of walks.  We are so lucky to have this landscape that already offers so much and continues to develop.

On my walks in the forest I have seen the azure flash of a kingfisher diving, glimpsed a first snowdrop opening deep in the woods on new year's day, strolled past carpets of bluebells, felt the heartbeat of an ancient oak tree and disentangled a young fallow deer trapped in a fence - priceless moments each of which is treasured.
